How we write, and how we check it

Our research is drafted with AI assistance and then checked, line by line, against the primary sources by a Shadow Labs editor before we publish. This page explains exactly what that means, so you can judge the work before you rely on it.

The line you will see

One disclosure, everywhere

Every AI-assisted piece, on the blog and in the Shadow Digest, carries the same line, with its own verification date.

Example

Drafted with AI assistance and checked line by line against the primary sources cited here by a Shadow Labs editor before it went out, on 20 Oct 2026. The cover image was generated with AI.

The image sentence appears only when a cover or hero is AI-generated. The date is the day an editor verified the piece.

Our standards

What we hold to

The rules behind that line. They are the same ones our posts and editions already follow; here they are in one place.

AI-assisted drafting

We use AI to help draft and edit. It speeds up the first pass and nothing more: it never decides what is true, and nothing is published on the strength of a model alone.

A human checks every claim

Before anything goes out, a Shadow Labs editor reads it line by line and checks each fact against the primary source cited next to it: the researcher, the vendor advisory, NVD or CISA KEV. If we cannot confirm a claim against its source, it does not run.

Confidence labels

Every relevant claim carries a label. [Confirmed] is stated by the primary source. [Reported] comes only from secondary coverage, which we name. [Our assessment] is our own analysis, marked as such.

No fabricated data

We do not invent numbers, quotes or victims. We use figures exactly as the source gives them, and if nobody has measured something for Latin America, we say so rather than estimate.

AI-generated illustrations are labeled

Our cover and hero images are abstract illustrations generated with AI. They are decorative, and never depict real people, clients or events. Where a piece carries one, its disclosure says so.

Corrections in public

When we get something wrong we fix it in the open: on the post itself, with the date, or in a visible correction in the next Digest edition. Spotted an error? Write to us and we will correct it.

Read the research itself on the blog, get the curated briefing in the Shadow Digest, or meet the team on the about page.
